UTI ?

On Friday I have had the worst pain of my life and had no idea what it was. Thought maybe a kidney stone. I went to the DR and told me i have a severe UTI. I have been on Cipro for 3 days so far 2 more to go and it is still very painful. My back hurt, belly neck and chills and fever, ugh! I basically feel like i have the flu.
The dr called today to tell me the bacteria found was ecoli. I didnt understand that. Has anyone ever heard of this? I have been using a heating pad on my back 3 times a day and 800mg of motrin for the pain. this is worse then child birth, lol. Is there anything else i can do to help this move along?

My mom had ecoli once (but she worked in a meat market). I don't know of anything that she did to get it out quicker than the antibiotics, but I hope that you feel better soon! ((Hugs))

This may be too much info but I believe ecoli lives in your feces..I know gross thought... but I am prone to UTI's (and have beend since I was 3) and some women DESPITE HYGENE have anatomy such that it is easier to trasmitecoli into the urethra (sp?).. anyhow if the cipro isn't helping, call your doctor... sometimes you can have a resistant strain and need to try a different antibiotic ( though this has only happened to me once)...also you can buy uristat and it might help with some of the pain.. it is over the counter.. I know UTI's are awful and I hope you feel better soon!!!!

Try either taking a vitamin C supplement or drinking juices high in vitamin C. The acid in the vitamin C will help to kill the bacteria off. The Uristat mentioned is also wonderful and helps to stop those painful bladder contractions. I hope you're feeling better soon.

I contracted ecoli years ago at a county fair in upstate NY. I had it through the bowels, though (wicked cramping and loose stools). Ugh no fun either way!
