I was asked what this is in my last post....
The reason I have decided to try this method with Milly is I simply cannot leave her to 'cry it out' - she gets so stressed that she throws up every time, been there, done it, not trying it again! It works for some babies and not for others.
Again, this method is not suitable for all babies and I guess we won't know if it will work for us until we try it but the Pick Up Put Down method is basically, if baby cries pick them up and once they've calmed down put them down again. Repeat until child falls asleep and over a few days they should learn to sleep. I watched a Cow & Gate programme.....The baby Squad.....they had an 18 month old boy who would wake every two hours and only nap in the car. They used this method with him and after a lot of determination on his parents part and a few sleepless nights........it worked! He slept for 8 1/2 hours undisturbed! He sleeps through the night and has a regular daytime nap too. That's where I got the idea!
The main thing is that when you pick the baby up you don't allow them to fall asleep again on you, they can be drowsy but not asleep when you put them back down, the whole piont is learning that they can settle themselves but are also reassured that Mummy and Daddy are still there. I am hoping that the picking Milly up to reassure her will stop her throwing up!!!
But, I am not trying this right away.....I am worried about her routine being disrupted through the Xmas season with visitors and visiting.......so as I said before one step at a time. DH also still has to watch the programme to see if he feels it's worth a try too.. It's important that we both want to do this! I'll keep you updated on the success (or failure!) of this method when I do try it!!
Has anyone else tried this?
