Grrrr! The hospital wasted no time sending me a bill for my surgery even though I have insurance. Ya wanna know what they called this surgery???? Tubal abortion..... That is soooo sooooo SOOOOOOOOOOOOO wrong and sick! I ripped it up. I feel like using it as toilet paper and mailing it back to them with Monopoly money for my co-pay.

I had a huge fight with my insurance company because they called my D&C "unspecified abortion." The hospital was mad because they don't perform them.

Sounds like some hospital is missing a sensitivity chip. Ugh.

My paperwork at the hospital that the ward secretary brought said spontaneous abortion. Another one said spontaneous termination. Then my ob wrote fetal demise at 13 weeks on my preoperative and post op notes. Lovely.

Oh I remember after my d&c's the bill saying missed abortions. It hurts to see that! The last thing in the world I would do is have an abortion. They should word it differently. Sorry you had to go through that.

With Ashley they put spontaious abortion and I called them in tears and told them it was not an abortion and they better find better wording for it. It made me so mad. she was 17 weeks and I vaginally delivere and held her and also had pictures of her done. That just irked me
I do not blame you for being so upset.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know the language is upsetting but I think abortion is the medical term that is used and has been used for ages. It's not the most sensitive terminology and you'd think they'd change it these days. I think if you chose to have an abortion, they call it "elective termination." I'm not trying to minimize your feelings - I'd be really upset too. I don't think I ever looked at my bills to see how they worded it. Insurance companies are heartless and some hospitals are all business without sensitivity. When I lost my babies, the ultrasound department gave me a report that stated "status: demised" where it usually said "alive" and had me bring the report to my OB. Couldn't they just call my dr. or bring the report across the hall themselves? Sensitivity training would be a good idea for everyone in the profession. Again, so sorry for your loss.

I'm really sorry to hear that. Perhaps you could try to make arrangements with the Hospital administrators to encourage them to change this sort of diagnosis/wording in the future to help other mothers avoid this anguish? Explaining, perhaps, that referring to the loss of a child (unwanted loss) as an abortion is a bit too much, as abortion connotes something done willingly, perhaps they could change things?
Either way, I'm sorry you had to have the salt in the wound on that one. I hope you are healing by days. Take care.
